04.06.2012 Three new members have joined the group of the Signatories of the Declaration on Sustainable Development in the Energy Sector in Poland.

For the fourth time those interested in matters relating to sustainable development and responsible business in the energy sector met at a conference held on the initiative of Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA as part of the Responsible Energy series. The key moment of the conference, held on May 31st, was the signing of the Declaration on Sustainable Development in the Energy Sector in Poland by representatives of another three companies: Aurelian Oil & Gas Poland, Strzelecki Energia Sp. z o.o. and Talisman Energy Polska. Thus the group of Signatories of the Declaration came to number 23 members.

The key theme of this year's conference was investment projects in the energy sector: from protest through dialogue to cooperation. The main topic of focus was projects related to shale gas exploration and production and dialogue with local communities as well as broadly understood communication and education on the matter, which in the unanimous opinion of all the speakers and panellists represented an indispensable element of the investment process.

The speakers invited to take part in the fourth edition of the conference include the CEOs of leading energy companies, members of the public administration and academic community, including Mikołaj Budzanowski, Minister of State Treasury, Bogusław Sonik, Member of the European Parliament, Piotr Woźniak, Undersecretary of State, Piotr Stankiewicz, Ph.D., Andrzej Kassenberg, Ph.D., and local government representatives. The speakers in three discussion panels exchanged views on the sources and mechanisms of conflicts related to projects in the energy sector, benefits derived from such projects, and opportunities for dialogue and cooperation between corporations and local communities.

The Responsible Energy Conference has become a fixed event in the calendar of unique events gathering not only the energy sector organisations, but also a wider group of individuals interested in sustainable development and responsible business. This year the conference attracted approximately 200 guests: CEOs of Poland's largest energy companies, representatives of central and local governments, industry organisations, the media, employer organisations, and non-governmental organisations.

We would like to extend sincere thanks to all the participants and invite them to join us at the next conference. More information on this year's event, including video highlights, will be soon available at www.odpowiedzialna-energia.pl
