25.01.2011 January 25th 2011 PGNiG among companies listed in the RESPECT Index

Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA has again been included in the elite group of socially responsible companies listed in the RESPECT Index. On January 25th 2011, for the second consecutive time, the Warsaw Stock Exchange announced a list of companies included in the RESPECT Index.

The RESPECT Index has been designed to promote responsible management at public companies in the context of sustainable growth, information order and communication on the financial markets. This year the methodology used during the selection process was modified in order to make it an ever more reliable tool for investors.

"The Warsaw Stock Exchange is right to have modified the RESPECT Index requirements as this raises the standard and helps improve the quality of CSR policies at Polish companies," said Michał Szubski, President of the Management Board, having received a certificate of PGNiG's inclusion in the RESPECT Index from Ludwik Sobolewski, President of the WSE.

Michał Szubski expressed his thanks to all employees of the PGNiG Group, whose hard work and commitment made the Company once again eligible for inclusion in the prestigious group.

This year, 140 listed names were shortlisted in the first and second round of the review process. Sixty-two companies made it to the third round, of which 16 were selected for inclusion in the RESPECT Index.

The idea to establish Poland's first stock market index of socially responsible companies dates back to the beginning of 2009. The index has been tracking the performance of selected WSE-listed companies since its official debut on November 19th 2009. The questionnaire which serves as the basis for the selection process has been designed in line with the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which take into account the following criteria: model of management, ability to timely meet obligations and liabilities, attitudes towards employees and customers, environmental protection initiatives, outreach initiatives and CSR policies. The next review process is planned for July 2011.

Both PGNiG SA and the other members of the PGNiG Group have impressive track records in corporate social responsibility. Since July 2009, the PGNiG Group has been implementing and developing a management system under the Sustainable Growth and Responsible Business Strategy, which is a summary of our best practices and challenges in this respect.
