14.04.2011 Companies of the PGNiG Group Top the Fifth Ranking of Socially Responsible Companies, Prepared by the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna Daily

PGNiG SA was acclaimed as the most socially responsible business from the fuel, energy and production sector and won honours as a CSR leader among Polish companies. What is more, another member of the PGNiG Group - Górnośląska Spółka Gazownictwa - was recognised as one of the sector's CSR leaders, securing the third place. The second place in that category was taken by PKN Orlen.

In the overall ranking of Socially Responsible Companies 2011, PGNiG was ranked seventh (up from the 10th position in the previous year).

During the gala ceremony of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna's Ranking of Socially Responsible Companies 2011, held on April 13th, awards honouring the CSR records of Polish companies were handed out for the fifth time. Out of the 66 firms which completed the questionnaire to submit their entries, there were - in addition to PGNiG SA - four other companies of the PGNiG Group. The most spectacular year-on-year advance was recorded by Górnośląska Spółka Gazownictwa, which moved up from the 51st to the 15th position in the overall ranking, and to the third place in the fuel, energy, and production category. The other entrants from the PGNiG Group were: Pomorska Spółka Gazownictwa, Geofizyka Toruń and Poszukiwania Nafty i Gazu Kraków.

The ranking included companies from seven sectors, evaluated for the quality of their CSR management. To enter the ranking, a company had to complete a questionnaire comprising 65 questions (60 in the previous year) relating to the following areas: responsible leadership, stakeholder dialogue, community involvement, responsible management and social innovativeness. Different answers were assigned appropriate scores, depending on the weight of a question. The maximum score in each area was 100, except for responsible management, where a company could gain the maximum score of 200. All the entrants were audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

It should be noted that the high ranking among several dozen most CSR aware firms is not only a success but also - with each passing year - a growing obligation. As the ranking's authors emphasise, CSR awareness among Polish employees and management staff keeps improving, but there still remains a lot to be done as far as innovative business solutions and truly responsible and sustainable leadership are concerned. Every successive edition of the ranking may represent a step towards building such aware and ethically managed businesses. More detailed information, together with the ranking list, may be found in a supplement to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, issue No. 73 of April 14th 2011.
