PGNiG: less gas from Russia, LNG imports on the rise

Diversification of Poland’s natural gas supply sources and directions is progressing. The share of gas imports from Russia dropped to ca. 60% in 2019, from ca. 67% in 2018, as opposite to LNG, whose share in total imports increased to ca. 23%, from 20% a year earlier.

Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) is set to continue with its strategy of diversifying natural gas supplies to Poland. The key challenge for the coming months will be to increase the Company's value. PGNiG will also commit itself to building a low-carbon economy based on green energy.

Three new licenses for PGNiG in Norway

Polish Oil and Gas Company has enriched its portfolio on the Norwegian Continental Shelf with new exploration licenses. It was awarded as part of the Awards in Predefined Areas (APA 2019) by the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. Thus, the number of concessions on the shelf in which the PGNiG Group holds shares increased to 29. It has status of the operator on four of them.

PGNiG and JSW will cooperate on the Geo-Metan project

Polish Oil and Gas Company and Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa have signed a contract for the pre-mining of methane from hard coal seams. The works will be carried out at the Budryk Coal Mine, which is owned by JSW.

Poles assess the diversification of gas imports very positively and support the development of gas production

As many as 84 percent of Poles support activities aimed at diversifying the directions of gas supplies, the purpose of which is to give up the import of this fuel from Russia – according to a public opinion poll commissioned by PGNiG.
