16.04.2012 PGNiG SA to reduce storage charges

In accordance with a decision of the President of the Energy Regulatory Office, PGNiG SA will implement a new Gaseous Fuel Storage Tariff, effective as of March 31st 2013. In the new Tariff, the average rate of charges for gas storage services will be reduced by approx. 7.9%.

The Tariff was published on April 13th 2012 in official gazette Biuletyn Branżowy URE - Paliwa gazowe. In accordance with the provisions of the Polish Energy Law, the Tariff will take effect upon the lapse of 14 days, but not later than 45 days after its publication.

The new Tariff specifies charge rates applicable to storage services: provided in the form of flexible packages or individual services, provided on a continuous or intermittent basis, and provided in the form of long-term, short-term or daily services.

New working capacities will be provided in line with the Timeline of the First Procedure to Make New Storage Capacities Available at Storage Facilities. 34 million cubic metres of storage capacity will be made available at the Mogilno Underground Gas Storage Cavern Facility and 180 million cubic metres of storage capacity will be made available at the Strachocina Underground Gas Storage Facility. This means a 13.3% increase in the total available storage capacity, to approx. 1,822 million cubic metres. The new capacities will be made available within three business days of the day immediately following the day of publication of the approved Tariff in official gazette Biuletyn Branżowy URE by the President of the Energy Regulatory Office.

The newly available working capacities at underground gas storage facilities as well as the scope of storage services offered are intended to meet the needs of customers and allow them to chose services better suited to their individual requirements.

The Tariff was prepared, inter alia, based on Regulation (EC) No. 715/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of July 13th 2009 on conditions for access to the natural gas transmission networks (Regulation 715/2009), which is an element of the Third Energy Package.
