30.04.2009 New investment project in Polish energy sector
Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA, Zakłady Azotowe w Tarnowie-Mościcach SA, Polimex-Mostostal SA, Tauron Polska Energia SA signed a letter of intent to jointly construct a new 200MW gas-fired combined heat and power plant and to modernise the existing 65MW CHP plant in Azoty Tarnów.
The investment project will involve the signatories of the letter of intent in the following tasks:
- PGNiG SA - analysis of means of natural gas deliveries to the new CHP plant;
- Zakłady Azotowe w Tarnowie-Mościcach SA - analysis of feasibility of separation of Azoty Tarnów energy utility, concept of cooperation with the city of Tarnów in the area of heat deliveries and heat and energy deliveries from the new facility;
- Polimex-Mostostal S.A. - concept and technical conditions, financing variants for the investment projects, possible implementation of the new investment project and modernisation project, acting as the operator of the new CHP plant;
- Tauron Polska Energia S.A. - conditions for receipt of excess electricity.
In the opinion of experts, Polish energy sector requires substantial financial expenditures related to the need to adopt the European Union requirements (reduction of gas emissions), improvements to energy production efficiency and increased production output. Analyses predict deficits of electricity on the energy market and the need for investments in new production capacity.
