Information of projects

PGNiG SA completed three projects to extend underground gas storage facilities − Wierzchowice UGSF, Strachocina UGSF and Husów UGSF − and construction of an underground gas storage cavern facility in Kosakowo. The projects were co-financed by the European Union under the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme for 2007-2013 (www.pois.gov.pl), and their objective was to improve the security of gas supplies in Poland. Upon completion of the projects, the capacity of the underground gas storage facilities increased by approximately 1.0 billion cubic metres, to 2.8 billion cubic metres.
Agreements for the co-financing of the projects were signed between the Oil and Gas Institute (Implementing Institution) and Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA (Beneficiary) as part of Measure 10.1: ‘Development of transmission systems for electricity, natural gas and crude oil, and construction and conversion of natural gas storage areas’ under Priority 10: ‘Energy security, including the diversification of energy sources’ of the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme for 2007-2013.

Wierzchowice UGSF
The co-financing agreement was signed on September 3rd 2010.
The project was completed in the second quarter of 2015.
The EU funding totalled PLN 484,557,817.07.

Strachocina UGSF
The co-financing agreement was signed on December 6th 2010.
The project was completed in the second quarter of 2012.
The EU funding totalled PLN 69,724,881.76.

Kosakowo UGSF
The UGSF Kosakowo co-financing agreement was signed on December 22nd 2010.
The project was completed in the first quarter of 2015.
The EU funding totalled PLN 114,685,997.64.

Extension of UGSF Husów
The co-financing agreement was signed on May 16th 2013.
The project was completed in the second quarter of 2015.
The EU funding totalled PLN 35,147,083.21.

LNG-based conversion of Ełk and Olecko from propane-butane to E-gas
On June 29th 2012, the Oil and Gas Institute (Implementing Institution) and Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA (Beneficiary) signed an agreement for co-financing of the project ‘LNG-based conversion of Ełk and Olecko from propane-butane to E-gas’ as part of Measure 10.2: ‘Construction of natural gas distribution systems in areas not yet supplied with gas and modernisation of the existing distribution networks’ under Priority 10: ‘Energy security, including the diversification of energy sources’ of the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme for 2007-2013.
The project was completed in the fourth quarter of 2014.
The EU funding totalled PLN 5,370,357.55.
